A bar of soap, a ceramic bowl, a silk scarf don't change the world, of course. But they can change a few things. Whose labor is valued, what knowledge is transferred, and what story lives on. When creating the Bağ Collection, we considered the word "impact" in these three senses.
Whose labor is valued?
In its first year, the collection is being brought to life with nearly 30 artisans and producers. We aim for this number to exceed 120 by the end of three years. But mere numbers don't fully explain us. What is truly important is working with a model that pays producers fairly and on time. Fair wages are not a preference in this model, but a fundamental principle.
Beyond that, the relationship we establish with producers is not purely commercial. A female social entrepreneur involved in the R&D process shares the formula she developed with a women's cooperative, providing them with training. Knowledge is transferred, capacity grows. This is also a significant impact.
What knowledge is being transferred?
Transforming the untold layers of Ankara into products is an impact in itself. The map of Gordion is engraved on a ceramic. The colors of Nallıhan's 10-million-year-old rock layers live on a silk scarf. The two banks of the Kızılırmak river meet in a fibula. These are not decorative choices, but an effort to make the invisible visible.
A silent transfer of memory takes place between these layers of natural and cultural heritage and the people who acquire these products. A craft continues. A place name, a river, a geological formation also begin to live in contemporary and everyday objects.
What story lives on?
All proceeds from the collection return to the producers and to Impact Hub Ankara's work prioritizing people and the planet. When you buy a product, you activate a chain. The impact of a product doesn't end with the person who buys it. A gift passes into other hands, a story is told by other mouths, a producer meets another producer. The Bağ Collection is a model where these chains are intentionally established.
Impact grows by accumulating. Just like Ankara's hidden streams flowing beneath the city, it originates in one place, surfaces in another, and gives life to the lands it passes through.
